Volvo and Ford to Develop Their Own Dual Clutch Gearbox

Monday Nov 6 2006, 4:24am PDT - Atul

Volvo and Ford are following the steps of Mitsubishi and Porsche to design their Own Dual Clutch Gearbox… Mitsubishi’s Next Edition of the Evolution, the Evolution X will feature a Twin Clutch Automated Gearbox, similarly Porsche has filled Patents for their seven-speed Dual Clutch Gearbox … Its better late than never for these Auto Giants as this step definitely brings down the cost of production for them simultaneously enhancing their profit making .

If everything works well for both these Automakers, we will soon see a DSG version of the Ford Focus ST and the Volvo C30 Hatches (both pictured). A 2.5-liter inline -5 Turbocharged engine with a five Speed Gearbox will feature in both the models.

DSG has already worked wonders for Volvo to an extent that they are going to phase out a conventional torque converter automatics for a pure DSG line-up across the range … I just hope that the DSG technology brings some good fortune for Ford Motor Co. as well.
